Enamel and oil, 60 x 151 x 68.2 cm The scenes of everyday life and the Sicilian landscapes from the cart painting tradition are the inspiration for this refrigerator. The central panel features a farmer sowing his fields; on one side is a field hand riding a cart to work; on the other is a scene of one of the natural wonders of the Catanese coast: i faraglioni, or sea stacks. The blue background alternates with lively checkerboard patterns and chain motifs that echo the decorations typically painted on the cascia (bed) and sides of the Sicilian cart. Depicted on the top is a blooming prickly pear.
