Artista

Roberto Caputo

Roberto Caputo was born in 1967 in Barrafranca, in the province of Enna. He began painting at just 10 years old, and has since become an accomplished self-taught artist. Over the years he has developed and expressed his creativity by experimenting with a variety of techniques and styles. His canvases recount his homeland, Sicily, with the narrow streets, monuments and warm colours of the Mediterranean inland. Since 2005 he has operated an art studio with an adjacent workshop for the restoration of Sicilian carts. Many of his works belong to private collections both in Italy and abroad.

Opera

Sicily and Sicilian-ness

Enamel and oil, 60 x 151 x 68.2 cm This refrigerator is a tribute to chivalric themes and the traditional motifs used to decorate Sicilian carts. The upper part of the front panel features the episode of the duel between the two famous paladins Orlando and Rinaldo, while the lower part depicts St. George, protector of knights, in the act of slaying the dragon. On the side panels, medallions with the profiles of the hero, the steed, the Saracen warrior and the union of the Sun and Moon, symbol of the alternation of day and night, are framed by colourful decorations drawn from the sides of Sicilian carts. The trinacria, emblem of Sicily, decorates the top.
