Artist

Roberto Caputo

Roberto Caputo was born in 1967 in Barrafranca, in the province of Enna. He began painting at just 10 years old, and has since become an accomplished self-taught artist. Over the years he has developed and expressed his creativity by experimenting with a variety of techniques and styles. His canvases recount his homeland, Sicily, with the narrow streets, monuments and warm colours of the Mediterranean inland. Since 2005 he has operated an art studio with an adjacent workshop for the restoration of Sicilian carts. Many of his works belong to private collections both in Italy and abroad.

Opera

The poem in the cart “Women, knights, weapons, love……”

Enamel and oil, 60 x 151 x 68.2 cm The heroic exploits of the paladin Orlando cover the entire surface of this refrigerator. The upper part of the front panel features a battle between knights and Saracens in the environs of Paris, while the square below depicts the liberation of Angelica by Ruggiero, pictured riding the mythical winged horse, the Hippogriff. On the lower part of the right side, the wheel of the Sicilian cart is painted with geometric motifs and colours of the Palermo tradition. In the upper part, an oval frames the episode of the duel between the warriors Rinaldo and Ferraù. The left side, embellished with white and blue checkerboard decorations, hosts a rosette with the effigy of Charlemagne and the sun, symbol of power and rebirth. On the top is a paladin from the Teatro dei Pupi, Sicily’s traditional puppet theatre.
