Artist

Gaetano Daniele Di Guardo

Gaetano Daniele Di Guardo was born in 1979 in Aci Sant’Antonio, in the province of Catania. After studying art, Gaetano went on to specialise in figurative painting at the Accademia delle Belle Arti, graduating with the highest marks. In addition to painting mainly on canvas in a dreamlike, surreal style, he teaches courses in local schools and introduces young people to the recurring techniques of Renaissance art. In recent years he rediscovered the values of the Sicilian painting tradition and became impassioned about cart decoration, frequenting specialised workshops and learning from the most important masters.

Opera

Orlando challenges Rinaldo

Enamel and oil, 60 x 151 x 68.2 cm On this refrigerator the typical decorations of the Catanese tradition of cart painting are exalted by the luminosity of the reds, greens, blues and yellows that stand out boldly against the black background. The modules that cover the surfaces take inspiration from the fearless protagonists of the chivalric epics. Busts of Ruggiero and Guido di Santa Croce appear on the front panel, framed by ornamental lozenge motifs. On the side panels are the figures of Orlando on the right and Rinaldo on the left, surrounded by curvilinear friezes. The top features a wind rose framed by a circle.
